Archive-Building Toolkit

Activists who speak at History Acts events frequently ask how they can build anarchive of their activities. We are compiling this toolkit of resources to help activists to document their own work, conserve their resources, and find repositories for the archives they create, so that their work may help future campaigners and inform scholarship.

Resources:

These resources provide advice on preserving different types of material.

  • Community Archives and Heritage Group resources: online advice and guidance for community archives
  • Documenting the Now: advice on the ethical documenting of social media content
  • Manchester Histories Historical Research Project Toolkits: guidance for historical research projects
  • WITNESS Library resources: guidance for video activists, available in Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish

Radical archives:

These repositories are interested in preserving activist and community archives and may be able to help you find a home for your activist archive. The links below contain information about depositing materials in their collections.
